The power and control of secretive autonomous and unaccountable national security elites over the nation’s decision-making regarding war and peace, with Caroline FredricksonCaroline Fredrickson is the president of the American Constitution Society and a leader in the progressive movement dealing with civil and voting rights, labor law, marriage equality, women’s issues and anti-discrimination.  She is also a senior fellow at Demos and earlier was the director of the ACLU’s Washington legislative office and general counsel and legal director for NARAL Pro-Choice America. In the past Caroline has worked on the Congressional Hill as the chief of staff for Senator Maria Cantwell and deputy chief of staff for Senate leader Tom Daschle. She has a BA in Russian and East European studies from Yale and a JD from Columbia University Law School. Caroline is the author of “Under the Bus: How Workin Women are Being Run Over” which looks at the racist history that has led to today’s inequality of employment among American women and has made the US one of the worst nations in the developed world in protecting legal protections for women in the work place and in society. Update on climate change – reports are rapidly loss of Arctic ice, past precedents of extinction due to changing climates, and climate change’s affect on health, with Guy McPhersonDr. Guy McPherson is a professor emeritus of Natural Resources, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona.  He has specialized in forest resources, energy decline and climate change and their economic consequences. In the past he has also taught at Texas A&M and University of California at Berkeley.Having become disillusioned with the American university environment and academia, and after attempts by university officials to silence his outspokenness about the human causes of climate change, Guy abandoned his tenured position as a full professor for ethical reasons of conscience. He is the author of several books, the latest co-written with Carolyn Baker entitled “Extinction Dialogs: How to Live with Death in Mind.”  He is also the co-host of the radio program Nature Bats Last heard every Tuesday evening at 8 pm Eastern on the Progressive Commentary Hour.  His website is  GuyMcpherson.com

Among his duties was preparing the President’s Daily Brief, which was a one-on-one to President Ronald Reagan’s most senior national security advisers.  He was responsible for the analysis of Soviet intelligence regarding Vietnam and at one time served as the Assistant National Intelligence Officer for Western Europe.
