Alexis Baden-Mayer is a Washington-based lawyer and activist serving as the Political Director of the Organic Consumers Organization and its Fund. She is the co-editor with the Organic Consumers Organization’s director Ronnie Cummins of its newsletter Organic Bytes, which reaches nearly 300,000 subscribers. Alexis has organized many grassroots campaigns, including Millions Against Monsanto, Coming Clean (to remove false “organic” claims from cosmetics), Safeguard Organic Standards (to keep USDA organic standards high), USDA Watch (to close the revolving door between federal regulatory agencies and the biotech lobby), and Organic Transitions (to shift from climate-destabilizing industrial food production to carbon-sequestering sustainable agriculture).  Before joining OCA, Alexis was the Government Relations Director for Vote Hemp, the National Field Director for the Marijuana Policy Project, and a lobbyist for a coalition to restore federal loan access to students with drug convictions.  Her organization’s main website is OrganicConsumers.org

Jack joins us for a 2nd day in a row.Dr. Jack Rasmus is a professor of political economics at St. Mary’s College and Santa Clara University in California.  Prior to teaching, he was an economic analyst for several global corporations and an organizer, negotiator and business representative for several labor unions. At one time he was elected at the National First Vice President of the National Writers Union.  In addition to his economic profession, Dr. Rasmus is a playwright and author of fictional works dealing with social struggles, and the owner of Kyklos Productions. Dr. Gareth Porter is an award-winning historian, an independent investigative journalist and policy analyst who specializes in US geopolitics and national security issues.  During the Vietnam war, he was Dispatch News Services Bureau Chief in Saigon and later a co-director for the Indochina Resource Center.  In addition to being a specialist in Vietnamese and Cambodian affairs, he has been reporting on the Middle East, including the chemical gas attacks reported in Syria, for the past decade. His numerous articles can found in Foreign Affairs, Al-Jazeera, Huffington, Counterpunch, Truthout, Consortium News and others. For the past 9 years he has been investigating US and Israeli tensions with Iran and US intelligence operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Gareth has an MA in international relations from the University of Chicago and a doctorate in Southeast Asian Studies from Cornell University.  He has published five major books dealing with Vietnam and Cambodia. His most recent is “Manufactured Crisis: The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare” published last year, which debunks the myths regarding Iran as a nuclear threat.
