Our entrance into the dangerous years of climate change, environmental and social emergencies, and a look at sustainable ways forward

Prof David Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College and the James Marsh Professor at the University of Vermont.  He is nationally recognized as an environmental activist in a variety of environmental efforts including education and environmental design.  David was the driving force behind the construction of America’s greenest building in North America – the Adam Joseph Lewis Center for Environmental Studies at Oberlin, which has been named one of the 30 Milestone Buildings of the 20th Century by the US Department of Energy. He is the founder of the Oberlin Project that has become recognized for its innovative development planning models for towns and cities to become resilient and sustainable in the future. He has received many prestigious awards including the Bioneers Award, the Millennium Leadership Award, the National Conservation Achievement Award and others.  David holds degrees from Westminster College and Michigan State University, and received his doctorate in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania.  He has published about ten books dealing with ecological literacy, environmental design and his most recent is “Dangerous Years: Climate Change, the Long Emergency and the Way Forward” published by Yale University Press.
