Our Autism epidemic and advances in nutritional therapy

DR. MARTHA HERBERT  is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, a Pediatric Neurologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and an affiliate of the Harvard-MIT-MGH Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging.  She is also the director of the TRANSCEND Research Program (Treatment Research and Neuroscience Evaluation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders

Dr. Herbert earned her medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and has a doctorate in evolution and history of consciousness from the University of California, Santa CruzShe received the first Cure Autism Now Innovator Award and is now on the Scientific Advisory Committee of Autism Speaks.

Her main research interests are in addressing autism as a “dynamic encephalopathy” (something that can change) rather than a “static encephalopathy” (something that is fixed for life) and in how environmental vulnerability affects brain and body health.

She is the author of “The Autism Revolution: Whole Body Strategies for Making Life All It Can Be”, which has just recently been published and outlines her medical research into autism and its treatments.

JULIE MATTHEWS  is a certified nutrition consultant specializing in autistic spectrum disorders and founder of the Nourishing Hope, dedicated to the treatment of autism through nutritional means.  She is host of the Autism One Radio program broadcast out of San Francisco.  Julie’s work has been based upon the most current research into the biochemistry of Autism and the role nutrition plays in restoring health. She is a leading education advocate for nutritional science to medical practitioners treating autism and board member of the Weston Price Foundation and a conference educator for DAN (Defeat Autism Now) and Autism One.
