A look at the little known science on how climate change is triggering earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes
Professor Bill McGuire is professor of Geophysical and Climate Hazards at University College London, and a science writer and broadcaster, whose research focuses on how climate change forces geological conditions and produces hazardous events, such as earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes. In the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami, Prof. McGuire was a member of the Natural Hazard Working group, established by the British government and in 2010 was a member of the scientific emergency team assessing Icelandic volcanic problems.
Bill has written several books on climate and geological threats to our planet and presented the BBC Radio series Disasters in Waiting and Scientists Under Pressure. His most recent book is “Waking the Giant: How a Changing Climate Triggers Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Volcanoes.”
