Guest Professor Michael Kazin Michael Kazin is a professor of history at Georgetown University in Washington DC, specializing in US social movement and the American Left.   He is also the co-editor of the magazine Dissent, founded in 1954 by Irving Howe as a home for thoughtful research for the democratic left.   Prior to his teaching at Georgetown, Professor Kazin was Chair of American Studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and taught at Stanford and the University of California. He is the author of five books, and  his most recent publication – “American Dreamers: How the Left Changed the Nation” –traces the sweeping history of the leftist movements from its early roots in the 19th century to the present and the attempts by Americans to envision a “radically egalitarian transformation of society”
