Today's guest is Professor Martin Nowak and he is a professor of biology and mathematics at Harvard University and director of the school’s Program for Evolutionary Dynamics. His research has focused on evolutionary processes related to diseases such as cancer and viral infections, and spatial game and win-lose dynamics. He was the first to develop a mathematical model for understanding the evolution of human language. After receiving his doctorate at the University of Vienna in Austria, Prof. Nowak has taught at Oxford and Princeton before joining Harvard. He has authored over 300 peer reviewed papers and received many awards. His recent work – “Super Cooperators: Altruism, Evolution and Why We Need Each Other to Succeed” explores the role of cooperation in the evolution of life beyond the popular evolutionary theory of competition and selfishness.
