Today's guest is Rodney Smith and he is a teacher and author of Vipassana or Insight meditation, and the founder of the Seattle Insight Meditation Society. He was a former Buddhist monk for 8 years, having lived in monastic settings in Burma and Thailand with several of the most renown meditation teachers. Starting in the mid-80s, Rodney has been devoted to teaching Buddhist philosophy and practice, and has been a pioneer in working with the dying in the hospice movement. He is the author of “Lessons from the Dying”, and most recently “Stepping Out of Self-Deception” which critiques the western psychological emphasis on self-centeredness from a Buddhist perspective.
