Dr. Raj Patel is an award winning author, activist and academic scholar who is currently a visiting professor at University of California Berkeley’s Center for African Studies. He is an honorary research fellow at the School of Development Studies at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa and a fellow at the Institute for Food and Development Policy, better known as Food First, in Oakland California. He is also an advisor to the UN’s Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. Raj holds degrees from Oxford, the London School of Economics and a PhD from Cornell. His writings have appeared in the Guardian, the NY Times, San Francisco Chronicle and across progressive blog and news sites. He is also the author of two books, Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System” and “TheValue of Nothing” which he appeared on our program in the past to speak about.
