Health Updates: health benefits of meditation Walter Bortz MD is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and one of America’s most distinguished medical experts on aging and longevity – particularly the role of physical exercise to enhance healthy aging. He currently the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board for the Diabetes and Wellness Foundation. At 80 years old, Dr. Bortz is still an active marathon runner, completing the Boston Marathon last year. His recent work has been a serious critique of the failures of our current medical paradigm and the need to develop a preventative system – which he calls Next Medicine – that focuses on physical activity, healthy diet, and lifestyle changes. This is presented in his recent book “Next Medicine: The Science and Civics of Health”.
