A conversation with Andrew Wakefield -- the MMR vaccine and medical denialism of government health authorities and the science-based community
Dr. Andrew Wakefield (Andy) is an gastroenterologist and academician specializing in inflammatory bowel disease and the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine or MMR. He is a former Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and has published over 130 original scientific papers and book chapters. In 1998, he and his colleagues at the Royal Free Hospital in London reported a novel inflammatory bowel disease in children with developmental disorders such as autism. Dr. Wakefield resisted pressure to stop his investigations into a possible link between vaccinations, intestinal inflammation and autism. In 2001 he was awarded the fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists and he has been a board member of the American charity Medical Interventions for Autism.
Dr. Wakefield’s book “Callous Disregard: Autism and Vaccines, The Truth Behind the Tragedy” published by Skyhorse Press recounts his research into autism, the MMR vaccine and GI illnesses and his legal struggles by government and medical health authorities to discredit him and his work.

Jeff Connaughton is an attorney who has worked on both sides of Washington – in government and with the lobbying industry. He was the Deputy Finance Director for Joe Biden’s presidential run in 1987 and later served as his Special Assistant when Biden chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee. While working with Chief Judge Mikva and moved into the White House when Judge Mikva was appointed as Bill Clintons Counsel. IN 2000, Jeff left government to enter lobbying and helped found Quinn Gillespie & Associates, one of Washington’s leading lobbying firms. Upon leaving the lobbying world and returning to government o work with Senator Ted Kaufman on financial reform legislation to counter bank fraud and the protections of of the myth of “too big to fail” where he witnessed how everyone in Washington, including Obama, had backed down and refused to fight the Wall street banks. Last year, Jeff released a book about the influence of financial lobbying and how it undermines public trust and interests: “The Big Payoff: Why Wall Street Always Wins”

John Whitehead is an attorney and author who has written, debated and practiced widely in the area of constitutional law and human rights the persecuted and oppressed. In 1982 he founded The Rutherford Institute, a nonprofit civil liberties and human rights organization headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia. John gained international renown from  his role as co-counsel in Paula Jones' sexual harassment lawsuit against President Clinton. He has filed numerous amicus briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also been co-counsel in several landmark Supreme Court cases as well.
John has been the subject of numerous newspaper, magazine and television profiles, ranging from Gentleman's Quarterly to CBS' 60 Minutes and his articles have been printed in theNew York Times, Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post and USA Today, among others.  His forthcoming book, A Government of Wolves, will focus on America’s transition from a democracy to police state.
