How the US has become a bullying nation and its consequences
 
Prof Charles Derber is a professor of Sociology at Boston College and a prolific author specializing in political economy and sociology, the environment and social change. He has written on the economic crisis, capitalism and globalization, corporate culture, fascism, war and peace and progressive movements, and is perhaps best known for analyzing the dynamics of corporate power. Charles has a long background in human rights activism having worked with voting African Americans in the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party in the 60s and protesting the Vietnam War. Prof Derber received degrees from Yale and later a doctorate from the University of Chicago. His articles and opinion pieces have appeared in the International Herald Tribune, Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor, Tikkun and other media sources. His books include "Sociopathic Society", "The Morality Wars" and his latest is “Bully Nation: How the American Establishment Creates a Bullying Society” co written with University of Massachusetts sociology professor Yale Magrass, and investigates the roots of despotic bullying in our institutions.

Ray McGovern served as an Army intelligence officer and a CIA analyst for 27 years under 7 presidential administrations, from John F. Kennedy to George H. W. Bush. Among his duties was preparing the President’s Daily Brief, which was a one-on-one to President Ronald Reagan’s most senior national security advisers.  He was responsible for the analysis of Soviet intelligence regarding Vietnam and served as the Assistant National Intelligence Officer for Western Europe. Since retiring, Ray has been a vocal peace activist and journalist and helped create Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) to expose the way intelligence was falsified to “justify” war on Iraq and the Sam Adams Associates for Integrity in Intelligence. Dr. Alex Tournier is a practicing homeopath and scientific researcher.  he studied physics at Imperial College of London, theoretical physics at the Cambridge University and received his doctorate from the University of Heidelberg studying the biophysics of water-protein interactions.  In 2007 he founded and is now the director of the Homeopathy Research Institute in London, a charitable organization dedicated to facilitating and conducting high-quality scientific investigations into homeopathy's principles and efficacy.  For a decade he worked at the prestigious Cancer Research UK center, studying the interface between biology, physics and mathematics. Ananda More is a classical homeopath, doula, and documentary film director. She currently is the co-owner of Riverdale Homeopathy in Ontario Canada.  Ananda was originally very skeptical about homeopathy and regarded it as quackery. Later, after falling ill during a visit to India, she turned to homeopathy and discovered she quickly recovered. Later, she attended a conference in Cuba and learned about successful effort to thwart an epidemic of the tropical disease leptospirosis by administering a homeopathic vaccine to 2.3 million Cubans.  Observing how homeopathy is denigrated in the media and conventional medical community and how homeopaths are publicly maligned, she directed the recent film Magic Pills: Promise or Placebo to correct the false perceptions of this 200 year old practice. The failures and health risks of the biopsychiatric view of mental disorders
Dr. Al Galves is a psychologist practicing in Las Cruces, New Mexico. For the past 15 years, he has been active in the movement to defeat biological psychiatry -- the  psychiatric school that understands mental disorders solely in terms of the biological function of the nervous system and the strongest advocates of psycho-pharmaceutical drugs.  Al has served on the Boards of Directors of the Mind Freedom International since 2004, and International Society for Ethical Psychology and Psychiatry since 2006, and was the Society's Executive Director between 2011 to 2013. In addition to receiving his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Union Institute, he also holds a degree in government from Cornell and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania. And a public announcement to accompany our conversation:  There will be a protest against the American Psychiatric Association this Sunday, May 6 outside the Javits Center in Manhattan. That is at 11th Avenue between 36th and 37th streets. Demonstrators should arrive before 1 pm.
